Looks like diaper duty is over for the near future for Bubba Watson. The 2012 Masters champ tweeted on Monday that he planned to return from his self-imposed hiatus from golf at next week’s PGA Tour event and that he had already hit the driving range in preparation for his reemergence.
“Cant wait to get back to golf next week @MemorialGolf ,” @bubbawatson tweeted Monday about appearing at the Memorial Tournament. A May 17 Twitter blast announced Watson had begun tuning up for Jack Nicklaus’ garden party. “Today I start practicing golf again!,” Watson typed. “Got 14 days to get good before tourney starts.”
Watson punctuated his earlier broadcast, fittingly, with the hash tag “BabyNeedsNewPairShoes.”
Following his playoff win at Augusta in April, Watson — who’s due in New England for next month’s Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. (the tourney he won in 2010 for his first tour victory) — embarked on a whirlwind media bender that included talk shows as well as Tim Tebow’s charity golf tourney.
Watson made the rounds shortly after he and his wife Angie had adopted a baby boy, Caleb. Exhausted, he decided to pull out of the Wells Fargo and The Players Championships to spend at least a month away from the game, tending to his family.
Watson, who will end an almost two-month hiatus at the May 31-June 3 Memorial event, will join Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, and a host of other heavy-hitters for the Dublin, Ohio, contest.
