Boston Amateur Golf Society
BAGS is a 28 year old travelling club that conducts tournament golf for players of all abilities at some of the finest golf clubs in MA, RI and NH. Currently with 200 members BAGS offers 70 tournaments a year on weekends and weekdays with reserved tee times, including a dozen private club shotgun tournaments with 72 to 90 players. Additionaly there are three two – day Championship Tournaments and Member/Guest team competitions and an annual four - day tournament at some of the Orlando area’s finest courses in the beginning of December with additional practice rounds offered. Guest privileges are offered for all tournaments.
BAGS offers three divisions, a gross division and two net divisions based on handicaps. The net divisions play under the stableford scoring system. The entry fee for each tournament includes a prize fund. In addition there are several side cash pools that all players are eligible to enter. There are also year - long points competitions with awards of free memberships, BAGS Credits and trophies for the top finishers.
Pace of play is very important in BAGS. Last year almost all rounds were conducted in a time of 4 hours and 40 minutes or less, the way the game should be played.
The new membership fee of $150 includes a USGA GHIN handicap at no cost. There are discounts available such as a 50% for military service veterans.
